A Nile cruise from Hurghada begins with a road trip: about four hours across the desert to Luxor, where the ships are. Here is how the cruise packages, cruise-and-stay holidays and Luxor day trips work, and which one fits the days you can spare from the beach.

Hurghada sits on the Red Sea; the Nile runs on the far side of the Eastern Desert, and no cruise ship sails between them. A Nile cruise from Hurghada is therefore a package: a transfer of about four hours to Luxor, three or four nights on a ship between Luxor and Aswan, and the road back to the coast. Alongside these sit one- and two-day Luxor trips that include a short boat ride — useful, but not a cruise.
Our view: if you are spending a week or more on the coast, give the Nile at least four nights — the upstream cruise from Luxor to Aswan — or book a cruise-and-stay holiday that does the logistics for you. A Luxor day trip is 14 hours with about eight of them on the road; it is a fair taste of Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, nothing more.
Yes, as long as you accept the drive. Tour transfers leave early, run at fixed times and pass police checkpoints on the way; allow about four hours each way. The UK Foreign Office advises against driving outside the main cities and resorts at night, which is one reason the transfers run by day.
The cruise itself is the standard Luxor ⇄ Aswan sailing that everyone else takes, on the same ships. A Luxor start is the shortest road trip and gives you the fuller 4-night upstream cruise; a 3-night cruise starts in Aswan, further from the coast. Either way the ships are the usual 50–80-cabin "5-star" vessels. Most ships sold to foreigners call themselves five-star; the label covers a wide range.
There is no Nile cruise from Hurghada to Cairo either. Cairo is reached by air or road, and the only scheduled river cruise on the Cairo stretch is a 12–14-night sailing between Cairo and Aswan — see the Nile cruise from Cairo.

The main product is a 5-day, 4-night package from Hurghada with guided tours and Abu Simbel in the title, from $1,020 and rated 4.2 from 24 reviews. Like other platform cruises it does not name the ship ("5-star ship or similar" is the norm): ask the operator for the ship's name, your cabin deck and the entry fees included before you pay.
Compare it with the same cruise booked from Luxor: the 5-day Luxor cruise with Abu Simbel starts from $840. The difference, about $180 per person, pays for the road transfers from the coast and back — reasonable for two four-hour drives with a driver who knows the boarding time.

"Cruise and stay" holidays join a week on the river to a week by the sea, with flights and transfers in one booking. In the UK the best-known is TUI's:
Ask how the transfer between Luxor and your Hurghada hotel works: by road it takes about four hours.
Build your own cruise and stay
Fly to Hurghada (TUI and easyJet from many UK airports; Jet2 starts Hurghada flights from February 2027), spend your beach week, then take the cruise package from your hotel. Or reverse the order and fly home from Luxor, which easyJet (Gatwick) and TUI (Gatwick, Manchester) serve in winter. We would put the cruise first: the temples mean 06:00 starts, and the beach is the better way to finish.
There is no one-day Nile cruise from Hurghada. Day trips titled "with Nile cruise" add a boat ride in Luxor to a sightseeing day — one such listing, from $224, has no reviews yet. What the coast really books is the Luxor day trip:
| Trip | Time | From | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Luxor day trip, small group, Tutankhamun's tomb | about 14 hours | $94.50 | The most-booked trip on the coast: 8,801 reviews, rated 4.8 |
| Luxor highlights & Tutankhamun's tomb, small group | about 15 hours | $80 | Cheapest well-rated option (4.6 from 968) |
| Luxor West & East Banks with tickets (Headout) | about 14 hours | $81 | The title says entry tickets are included (4.8 from 104) |
| 2-day Luxor with hotel, balloon and boat ride | 2 days | $270 | A night in Luxor and a dawn balloon flight (4.5 from 1,215) |
| Luxor balloon and day tour from Hurghada | listed at 20 hours | $330 | The balloon without a hotel night — a very long day |
The two-day trips are the better deal for your energy: you sleep in Luxor, fly at dawn over the West Bank (pick-up about 05:00–05:30 in winter), and see the temples without eight hours of road in one day. See Luxor balloon flights and things to do in Luxor.
On day trips, check whether entry tickets are included. The Valley of the Kings general ticket is EGP 750 and Tutankhamun's tomb another EGP 700; Karnak is EGP 600.

Most GetYourGuide bookings can be cancelled free up to 24 hours ahead; multi-day cruises may differ, so check the listing. For every price band on the river, see Nile cruise prices.
The UK Foreign Office places Hurghada, Cairo, Giza and the Nile valley between Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel outside all its warning areas (FCDO advice). It also notes accidents on Nile cruises caused by overcrowding and poor safety standards. On 21 December 2025 two cruise ships collided near the Esna lock and one passenger died (Egypt Independent).
Practical points: some UK tour operators do not sell balloon flights, so check with yours; drink bottled or filtered water; and never swim, wade or bathe in the Nile, which carries schistosomiasis (bilharzia). The Red Sea and hotel pools are fine.

Combine them between October and April. In midwinter Hurghada reaches about 22 °C by day, Luxor about 23–25 °C, but Luxor nights drop to 7–9 °C — pack a fleece for the sun deck and the balloon. From June to August daytime highs average 36–37 °C in Hurghada and above 41 °C in Luxor and Aswan; prices drop, several ships stop sailing and TUI's Nile programme does not run.
One summer date is different: the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027, with more than six minutes of totality near Luxor. Expect Luxor to fill up. Month-by-month detail is in when to go.

Yes, as a package: you are driven about four hours to Luxor, join a ship for three or four nights between Luxor and Aswan, and are driven back. No ship sails from Hurghada itself.
About four hours each way. Tour transfers leave early, at fixed times, and pass police checkpoints.
No. One-day trips from Hurghada are Luxor sightseeing days of about 14 hours, sometimes with a short boat ride. For time on the river you need at least a two-day trip with a night in Luxor, or a 3- or 4-night cruise.
The 4-night cruise package with transfers starts from $1,020 per person on GetYourGuide. TUI's cruise-and-stay holidays with UK flights have started from £1,499 to £1,785 per person in past winters.
Packages from Hurghada join the ship in Luxor, and the standard 4-night upstream cruise ends in Aswan. Check the itinerary on the listing and ask how and when you return to the coast.
The Nile valley cruise route is outside all UK Foreign Office warning areas. The FCDO does note accidents caused by overcrowding and poor standards, so choose a ship you can name and an operator who answers your questions before you pay.
