A Nile dinner cruise in Cairo is a two-hour evening sailing on a big restaurant boat: dinner, a live band, a tanoura dancer (the whirling, Sufi-inspired dance with a spinning, colourful skirt) and a belly dancer, with the lights of Cairo Tower and the Qasr el-Nil Bridge sliding past the windows. It is the easiest good evening in the city, and fits the night before you fly south to join a cruise ship.
The catch is the shopping. The same few boats are resold by many agencies across GetYourGuide, Headout and Tiqets, and on 19 October the same Nile Maxim seat cost $70 on one platform and $122.55 on another. Some of the best-selling listings do not even name the boat. This guide sorts out which boat is which, what each sitting is like, and where each one is cheapest today.
Most Cairo dinner cruises you can book are one of three boats. Headout's most-reviewed dinner cruise, a Grand Egyptian Museum combo, spells it out: the evening leg is on Nile Crystal, Nile Pharaoh or Nile Maxim, depending on the variant you choose. Learn these three names and you can compare listings properly.

The show is broadly the same everywhere: a live band playing Egyptian and folk music (the Crystal adds some Western tunes), the tanoura dancer and a belly dancer. Alcohol is sold on board on the Maxim and the Crystal, at extra cost. On top of these three, GetYourGuide sells a newer set of named boats (Opal, Royal Topaz, Onyx, Turquoise Prestige) and a few generic "Nile dinner cruise" listings that leave the boat unnamed.
One more distinction matters: a restaurant on a boat is not the same as a dinner cruise. Several venues along Cairo's riverbank are moored for good. The Maxim complex in Zamalek, for example, also runs lounges and a seafood restaurant that never leave the quay. What you want is the timed sailing, which is what the listings on this page sell.
The Nile Maxim boards on Saray El Gezira Street in Zamalek, the island district in the middle of the river, directly in front of the Cairo Marriott Hotel. It is not a Marriott outlet: the hotel's own list of restaurants does not include it, and the boat is run by a separate company. It is also nowhere near Marriott Mena House, which sits by the Giza pyramids. More on that mix-up in our Marriott and Hilton dinner cruise explainer.
The boat leaves at 20:00 every evening for about two hours, and sellers ask you to arrive 30 minutes early. The route named on listings takes in Cairo Tower, the Qasr el-Nil Bridge, the Four Seasons at Nile Plaza and the Al Funun garden. No operator publishes how far the boat actually travels, so expect city lights rather than a long river voyage.
Food is a set menu with a salad bar: a choice of grilled chicken, sea bass or veal, then dessert, per the menu card resellers supply. Some listings say "open buffet", so check your voucher if it matters to you. Up to 240 guests eat on a single level, which is why the window seats matter more here than on the other boats. A table away from the glass looks at the stage and the other diners.
Prices vary wildly for this one boat. Headout's standard ticket was the cheapest at $70 and has 302 reviews averaging 4.7. Tiqets sells it for $75 and shows you the supplier and the boarding address before you pay. GetYourGuide's Nile Maxim listing was $122.55 and rated just 3.9, the lowest score of any named boat on that platform. Headout marks both of its Maxim listings as priced per group in its system, so read the price label (per person or per booking) before you compare it with anything else.

Accessibility is unclear: one platform marks the Maxim as wheelchair accessible, another warns of boarding steps. Ask the seller before booking. Our full Nile Maxim review covers the boat in more detail.
The Nile Crystal boards at 7 Nile Corniche in Maadi, a residential district popular with expats on the east bank about 7 km south of downtown. If you are staying in Maadi it is on your doorstep. From Zamalek or a pyramids hotel in Giza it is a longer drive across the city than the Maxim.
It is the cheapest of the three big boats and the best value for most visitors: an open buffet with separate vegetarian and non-vegetarian spreads, the same tanoura and belly dance show, a live band, and an open top deck you can step out onto for photos. Unlike on the Maxim, you are not stuck with your table's view.
The Crystal is also the only big boat with an early "sunset" sailing at around 18:00, alongside later sittings (listings show 20:30 and 23:00, but one listing gives different times, as the timetable shifts with the season). Check the time on your voucher, not the listing. You spend about two hours sailing and about three hours on board in all.
Platform prices on 19 October: Tiqets from $27, Headout from $31 for both the standard and the sunset sitting, and $39 for Headout's guaranteed window table, which is assigned before you board and kept for the whole sailing. Unlike the Maxim upgrade, this one really is a window. The boat is sold everywhere as "4-star". That is the sellers' label, not an official grading.

If the weather is bad, the Crystal's Headout listing offers a new date or a full refund. Read the Nile Crystal review for boarding tips and the Maadi location.
Nile Pharaohs, also written "Nile Pharaoh", boards at 138 Nile Street on the Giza (west) bank, handy for hotels in Dokki, Giza and Mohandessin and less so for Heliopolis or New Cairo. The boat is built to look like a pharaonic barge. The company says it has been sailing since the 1970s and calls itself Egypt's first cruising restaurant.
It runs two dinner sittings every night, 20:00–22:00 and 22:30–00:30, plus a lunch cruise on Fridays and Saturdays from 15:00 to 17:00. Dinner is an Egyptian-oriental open buffet, with belly dancers, singers and musicians, and resellers add a tanoura dancer. Drinks are not included.
The late sitting is the reason to choose it. It suits visitors from the Gulf who dine late, and it pairs well with the Grand Egyptian Museum, which stays open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays: museum in the evening, then the 22:30 boat. One guest comment on the operator's site found the late sitting less crowded than the 20:00 one.
You can book it on Tiqets from $30.32, or from $47.80 with soft drinks and a transfer, or as one option in Headout's museum-and-dinner combo. The boat also sells direct through its own website, which advertises 15 % off for two or more people. The site is sometimes down, though. The same company runs KA Felucca, a floating bar on a felucca (a traditional wooden sailing boat) at its Giza quay. See the Nile Pharaohs review.
There is no single best boat: it depends on your hotel, your dinner hour and whether the view or the price matters more. These are the listings we would book today.

GetYourGuide sells four boats you will not find on the other two platforms: Opal (from $45, 4.7 from 401 reviews), Royal Topaz (from $51, 4.7 from 228), Onyx (from $56, 4.8 from 79) and Turquoise Prestige, sold as a sunset dinner (from $45, 4.7 from 78). All four score better than GetYourGuide's own Nile Maxim listing. Who runs them and where they moor is not published on the listing. The boarding point is on your voucher, so check it against your hotel before you pay for a pickup.
GetYourGuide's biggest Cairo dinner cruise, from $42 with 2,326 reviews at 4.2, does not name its boat. Nor does the cheap pickup version from $25 (4.4 from 943 reviews). You could board any hull, and you cannot compare it with anything until after you have paid. On GetYourGuide the agency behind a listing matters as much as the boat. For the same money, a named boat is the more honest buy.
A Nile dinner cruise in Cairo costs from about $20 to $123 per person on the platforms, and the spread is mostly about the boat and the seller, not the evening. Roughly:
What the price includes: the sailing, dinner (buffet or set menu), the live band, the tanoura and the belly dance show. Hotel pickup is included on some listings and a paid add-on on others.
What costs extra, on all the big boats:
No boat publishes a walk-up price; the only known direct saving is the Pharaohs' 15 % for two or more.

"Sunset cruise" is the most misleading phrase here: Cairo's sunset moves by about three hours across the year. The sun sets between about 17:00 and 17:45 from November to February, around 18:00–18:30 in March, early April and mid-October, and around 19:40–20:00 from May to August, once summer time is on.
So the Crystal's 18:00 "sunset" boat really sails into the sunset only in spring and autumn. In winter it leaves after dark; in midsummer it leaves in full daylight and the sun sets near the end of the sailing. If the sunset is the point, travel in March–April or late September–October, or pick a felucca in Cairo, timed 60–90 minutes before sunset on the day.
The 20:00 Maxim and Pharaohs sittings are night cruises all year, apart from a last glow in June and July. For the season-by-season picture of a whole trip, see when to go.

Each platform behaves differently. Headout is strongest for the Maxim and the Crystal, with the most reviews and the seat-guarantee upgrades. Tiqets is cheapest for the Crystal, and it is the only platform that shows the real supplier, the boarding address and the start time before you pay. GetYourGuide has the named boats (Opal, Royal Topaz, Onyx) and the biggest review counts, but it never shows the supplier. More in our platform comparison.
Booking a Cairo dinner cruise without surprises
Dress code. The Maxim and Crystal listings ask for smart casual: no beachwear, and smart shoes are recommended. Bring a light layer in winter if you plan to stand on the Crystal's top deck.
Children. The Maxim's dinner sailing is open to all ages; the over-21 lounges in the same complex are separate venues. Ask the seller about child prices.
Accessibility. Listings contradict each other for both the Maxim and the Crystal (one says wheelchair access, another mentions boarding steps). Ask the seller before booking.
Ramadan. A Nile Pharaohs reseller says there is no belly dancer during Ramadan. Sitting times may also change, so check the show and timings with the seller if you travel then. The UK government's Egypt travel advice covers Ramadan etiquette in public.
Check Nile Maxim dates on Headoutfrom $70Affiliate link: if you book, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Dinner on a felucca. A private felucca with dinner and soft drinks costs from $46 on GetYourGuide (dinner felucca, 4.8 from 475 reviews), or from $38 with unlimited soft drinks. You get the boat to yourselves, no show and soft drinks only: a good choice for couples. Our Cairo felucca guide lists the docks.
Cafelluca's open-air "dahabiya". Headout sells an open-air dinner boat called Cafelluca (from $34, 4.8 from 328 reviews). Its listing promises music instead of the belly dance and tanoura show, plus soft drinks, but the description is not consistent, so read it carefully. Despite the name, it is not a sailing dahabiya.
Museum plus dinner. Headout's Grand Egyptian Museum entry plus dinner cruise combo (from $70.30, 1,155 reviews) lets you choose the Crystal, Pharaoh or Maxim variant. Tiqets has a museum, transfers and Nile Crystal package at $110. If you plan the museum separately, buy entry on the museum's only official sales site, tickets.gem.eg. Our Cairo things-to-do guide has the rest.
Andrea in Maadi. Tiqets' "Memphis Dinner Cruise" (from $20.21) boards at Andrea Maadi, a ship-restaurant opposite Al-Salam Hospital that used to be the Le Memphis floating restaurant. It has nothing to do with the agency Memphis Tours. Ask whether your sitting actually leaves the mooring (Andrea page).
"Nile City boat". No boat by that name is sold anywhere; Nile City is the name of a tower complex on the Corniche. Our Nile City boat explainer lists the named boats to book instead.
From about $20 to $123 per person on the platforms: the Nile Crystal from $27–31, the named GetYourGuide boats from $45–56, the Nile Maxim from $70 (Headout) to $122.55 (GetYourGuide). Drinks are always extra.
For the classic show and a central boarding point, the Nile Maxim in Zamalek, booked where it is cheapest. For value and a top deck, the Nile Crystal in Maadi. For a late dinner, the Nile Pharaohs' 22:30 sitting on the Giza bank. On GetYourGuide, Opal has the strongest record among the named boats.
No. On the Maxim, the Crystal and the Pharaohs every drink is extra, even water. A few packages add soft drinks, such as Tiqets' Pharaohs-with-transfer ticket and the private dinner feluccas.
The Nile Maxim leaves at 20:00. The Nile Crystal has a sitting at around 18:00 and later ones (listings show 20:30 and 23:00). The Nile Pharaohs sails at 20:00 and 22:30, with a lunch cruise at 15:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. The voucher time is what counts; pickup is 45–90 minutes earlier.
Not as a short trip. Almost every "Nile cruise from Cairo" package flies you to Luxor or Aswan, about an hour, to join a ship there. The only regular long river cruise is Mövenpick's Darakum, Cairo to Aswan in 14 nights or Aswan to Cairo in 12, mid-February to mid-November. Our Nile cruise from Cairo guide explains the options.
The boats on this page are all in Cairo. On a Luxor–Aswan cruise ship dinner is served on board every night, and the classic Luxor evening on the water is a sunset felucca. See our Luxor felucca guide.
Smart casual, as the Maxim and Crystal listings ask: no beachwear, smart shoes recommended, and a light layer for the deck in winter.
