Who runs this site
nile.guide is an independent editorial guide to Nile cruises, tours and things to do in Egypt. It is not the official site of any ship, river line, tour operator, museum or Egyptian authority, and it is not affiliated with any of them.
The site is run by [OWNER: legal name and address], which is responsible for the personal data described on this page. You can reach us by email only, at contact@nile.guide. We do not publish a phone number or a street address for enquiries.
What we collect, and what we don't
We do not run user accounts, analytics or visitor-tracking tools, advertising networks or a newsletter. There is nothing to sign up for and no form that asks for your details.
We handle personal data in two situations only.
Server access logs. Like almost every website, our server keeps a standard access log. For each request it records:
- the IP address the request came from
- the date and time
- the page or file requested and the response code
- the referring page, if your browser sends it
- the browser and device type (the "user agent")
We use these logs to keep the site running, to find broken pages and to protect it against abuse. We do not use them to build profiles, we do not combine them with other data and we do not sell or share them for marketing. Logs are kept for [OWNER: log retention period] and then deleted.
Emails you send us. If you write to contact@nile.guide, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. We use it only to reply and keep it only as long as the conversation needs. We never add you to a mailing list.
Booking calendars from GetYourGuide and Tiqets
The only third-party code on nile.guide is the live booking calendars of GetYourGuide and Tiqets, which show available dates and prices for the products we recommend.
- By default the calendars load automatically when you open a page that has one. When they load, your browser connects to the partner's servers, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies.
- You can choose "Only on click" in the calendar settings. The calendars then load only when you ask for one.
- Your choice is stored in your own browser's local storage under the name
ng-cc. It stays on your device; we never receive it.
What GetYourGuide and Tiqets do with the data their calendars collect is covered by their own privacy policies. More detail is on our cookies page.
When you click a booking link
Our booking links go straight to GetYourGuide, Headout or Tiqets. They are affiliate links: the partner can see that you arrived from nile.guide, so that we earn a commission if you book. The price you pay is the same.
Once you are on a partner's site, you are its visitor and its customer. Anything you enter there, such as your name, contact details, payment details or travel dates, is collected and handled by that partner under its own privacy policy, not by us. How the commission works is explained in our disclaimer.
Maps and fonts
The maps on our pages are drawn from Natural Earth data, which is in the public domain, and are part of the page itself. Our fonts are self-hosted. Neither sends a request to a map service or a font service, so neither shares your IP address with anyone else.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection law (including the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR) gives you rights over your personal data. You can ask us:
- whether we hold personal data about you, and for a copy
- to correct it or delete it
- to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it
Write to contact@nile.guide. Because we have no accounts, the only way we can find you in our server logs is by the IP address and the approximate date and time of your visit, so please include them. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
nile.guide is a travel-planning site for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and nothing on the site asks for personal details.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site works changes, for example if we add a new tool or partner, we will update this page and the effective date at the top. Related pages: cookies, terms of use, about us and contact.
