MS Chateau Lafayette Nile cruise: prices, days and an honest review

MS Chateau Lafayette is an agency-sold Luxor–Aswan ship on the Friday/Monday rhythm, priced from $479 per person for 3 nights in summer with entry fees included. The prices are clear; the ship itself is not, since it has no official website and its star rating depends on who sells it.

The Chateau Lafayette Nile cruise is one of the ships you meet only through agencies: no official website, no named owner, and a cabin count that the agency itself says is published inconsistently. What it does have is a clear seasonal price list that includes entry fees. Our verdict: a reasonable mid-price option if an agency you trust quotes it with fees included, but not a ship to pay a 5-star premium for.

Pros

  • Agency price includes entry fees, guide, transfers and full board
  • Friday from Aswan and Monday from Luxor: the most common weekdays, easy to fit
  • Clear summer, shoulder and winter rates

Cons

  • No official website, owner or reliable cabin count
  • "5-star" is disputed: one agency files it as standard
  • Prices quoted per person for three sharing a cabin; ask for the double rate

Not Le Fayan

The names look alike, and they are often searched together, but Chateau Lafayette and Le Fayan are separately marketed ships with no shared operator that we could find. Le Fayan has its own website, a recent brochure and a Heliopolis office; Chateau Lafayette has none of these. Don't treat them as sister ships, and don't assume a review or a price of one applies to the other. See the Le Fayan review.

The ship: what is known

An agency describes the ship as "fully renovated in November 2019". It is sold as 5-star, but one agency files it as "Standard". The agency also notes that the published cabin inventories conflict, so we give no cabin count. Hotel-booking sites list it under a different spelling, "MS Chatteau Lafayette", which matters when you compare ratings.

Most Nile ships sold to foreigners call themselves five-star, and no public ministry list of rated Nile ships exists. When two sellers disagree on the class of one ship, assume the lower one and judge the price on that basis.

Itinerary: Friday from Aswan, Monday from Luxor

Chateau Lafayette leaves Aswan on Friday for 3 nights to Luxor and Luxor on Monday for 4 nights to Aswan, the same pattern as Sonesta St George, Mövenpick Royal Lily and Hamees, Historia, JAZ Elite Regent and Steigenberger Legacy. At busy moorings ships often tie up side by side, so your window may face the next ship; don't pay extra for a "Nile view".

The programme is the standard one: Philae and the High Dam in Aswan, Kom Ombo, Edfu, the West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut) and Karnak with Luxor Temple. On the 3-night, the downstream run packs Kom Ombo and Edfu into one day; the 4-night upstream run is more relaxed. Details by direction: Aswan to Luxor and Luxor to Aswan.

Chateau Lafayette Nile cruise prices

Agency prices in US dollars, per person, three sharing a cabin, including full board, transfers, guided excursions and entry fees:

Cruise June–August May and September October–April
3 nights from Aswan (Friday) $479 $499 $719
4 nights from Luxor (Monday) $599 $619 $919

Two things to read into the table. First, summer saves $240 on the 3-night and $320 on the 4-night, but daytime highs in Luxor and Aswan average 39–42 °C at that time. Second, these are triple-share rates: ask for the price for two sharing before comparing. For reference, the same kind of agency quotes Nile Shams at $406 (summer) to $616 (winter) for 3 nights for two sharing, and the Royal Viking at $436 to $646, both with entry fees between Luxor and Aswan.

Because fees are included, compare carefully with platform cruises. The cheapest 3-night Aswan → Luxor listing on GetYourGuide starts at $450 with a guide, but most listings don't say whether entry fees are included. If they are not, add about EGP 4,060 per adult for the eight sites of a standard cruise; current prices are on the official ticket shop.

Official ticket prices checked on 19 October 2026. Many cruise packages include these, many don't: read the listing. Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities ticket shop (egymonuments.com) ↗

Tips are extra on both: roughly US$5–10 per person per night for the crew and US$10–15 per person per day for the guide, as agencies suggest.

What travellers say

We could not collect review themes for Chateau Lafayette, and we don't repeat unchecked opinions. Before booking, ask the agency for recent cabin photos, the deck of your cabin, and the ship's rating on hotel-booking sites under both spellings. Also confirm that the 2019 renovation covered the cabins you are being offered.

How to book

Chateau Lafayette is sold through Egyptian agencies. No booking platform sells it by name: GetYourGuide and Headout cruises say "5-star ship or similar", and the operator assigns the ship. If you book a platform cruise and want to know whether you might end up on it, ask the operator for the ship's name before you pay.
