Hapi Nile cruise review: MS Hapi V, the ship sold as "Hapi 5"

MS Hapi V, sold on booking sites as "Hapi 5", is a mid-range ship of 65 cabins on the standard Luxor ⇄ Aswan loop, from about $150 per person per night. Little is published about it, so book it only with the ship's name and inclusions in writing.

The Hapi Nile cruise people book is MS Hapi V. Booking sites list a "Hapi 5" with the same 65 cabins, so they are very likely the same ship under a Roman and an Arabic numeral, though no seller says so outright. Verdict in one line: a reasonably priced, ordinary-sized cruise ship that is hard to judge because so little about it is published, so treat it as "a mid-range ship" and check the details yourself.

Hapi V or Hapi 5: one ship?

Timbuktu Travel, a UK agency, sells "Hapi V", a ship of 65 cabins on the main deck and two upper decks. Expedia and Hotels.com list "Hapi 5 Nile Cruise" for 3, 4 or 7 nights from Luxor or Aswan, also with 65 units and a pool. Same number, same cabin count, same route: very likely one ship. Listings for "MS Hapi" or "Hapi 05" most likely mean it too; check the cabin count.

No Hapi I to IV appears in current sale listings. If a seller offers you a different Hapi, ask for the full name and the cabin count before paying.

Sellers sometimes call it a luxury cruise, but its price sits at the lower-middle of the market, and no official star rating is published. Most ships sold to foreigners call themselves five-star, and there is no public ministry list of rated Nile ships, so judge it by price and inclusions.

Hapi V itinerary

Hapi V sails the standard loop between Luxor and Aswan. One booking-site listing gives Monday from Luxor for 4 nights and Friday from Aswan for 3 nights, the most common pattern on the river; confirm the day with your seller, since no second source repeats it. The 7-night option joins the two halves into a round trip.

Hapi Nile cruise prices

The one published figure is Timbuktu Travel's "from $150 per person per night", as part of a tailor-made trip. That puts a 4-night cruise around $600 per person before extras, in line with the cheaper five-star ships.

Ask what the price covers. Agency packages often include entry fees and a guide; if yours does not, the eight core sites cost EGP 4,060 per foreign adult. Budget too for tips (no official rule; agencies suggest roughly US$5–10 per person per night for the crew plus US$10–15 per day for the guide), drinks, and a compulsory New Year's Eve gala on many ships. Our Nile cruise prices page shows where Hapi V sits on the ladder, and best budget Nile cruises lists the cheapest ships with published fares.

Hapi Nile cruise reviews: what to check

We have no reliable traveller reviews or complaints about Hapi V to summarise. Instead, ask the seller:

  • Is it Hapi V (Hapi 5), with 65 cabins? Get the name on your confirmation.
  • Which deck is your cabin on, and does it have a window you can open?
  • Does the fare include entry fees, transfers and an Egyptologist guide?
  • Does the ship sail in your month? Some ships pause from June to August.
  • On the 3-night run, are Karnak and Luxor Temple visited after check-out?

Is a Hapi Nile cruise safe?

The Nile valley between Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel lies outside all the warning areas in the UK government's travel advice for Egypt. The same advice notes accidents on Nile cruises caused by overcrowding and poor safety standards, which is one more reason to know your ship's name before you board. Never swim in the Nile: bilharzia (schistosomiasis) is a risk; the ship's pool is fine.

How to book Hapi V

Book through an agency that names the ship in writing, such as Timbuktu Travel for a tailor-made trip, or through a hotel-booking site listing "Hapi 5". There is no official website. If you would rather have published cancellation terms and reviews, book a platform cruise on the same weekdays and ask the operator for the ship's name after booking.
