If you are looking for the Nile City boat in Cairo, the short answer is that you can't book it. No boat of that name is sold on GetYourGuide, Headout or Tiqets, and we found no operator website, menu or booking page for one. What you can book are several named dinner boats that do the same thing: two hours on the river after dark, dinner, and a belly-dance and tanoura show. This page explains where the name comes from and which of those boats suits you.

Where the "Nile City" name comes from

Nile City Towers. The best-known "Nile City" in Cairo is the Nile City Towers complex on the Corniche at Ramlet Boulaq. A "Nile City boat" may simply mean a boat near the towers, but no dinner boat is sold under that name from there.

An older moored boat. An older travel article listed a "Nile City" among the big dinner boats moored along Cairo's riverbank. We found nothing to show that it still operates or can be booked, so we can't describe it.

Restaurants on boats. Cairo's riverbank also has restaurants on permanently moored boats, which are not cruises at all. Next to the Nile Maxim in Zamalek, for example, the same complex runs a Lebanese restaurant on a boat's upper deck and a seafood restaurant on board. If you want a meal on a moored boat rather than a sailing, look up that venue's own listing; this guide covers boats that sail and that you can book.

Dinner boats you can book instead

The Cairo dinner-cruise market is a handful of boats resold by many agencies. Pick by boat name, not by listing title.

Named Cairo dinner boats

1

Best rated for the price

Opal: 4.7 from 401 reviews, from $45, a 2-hour dinner cruise with live entertainment. The boat is named on the listing; the boarding point is on your voucher.

2

A second named option

Royal Topaz: 4.7 from 228 reviews, from $51, a night dinner cruise with a show.

3

Cheapest named big boat

Nile Crystal in Maadi: open buffet, an upper deck, from $31 on Headout.

4

The classic

Nile Maxim in Zamalek, in front of the Cairo Marriott: a set menu with a salad bar, one dining level, from $70 on Headout.

GetYourGuide also sells a few other named boats, such as Onyx (4.8 from 79 reviews). Their operators and docks aren't published: the boat is named on GetYourGuide, and the boarding point is on your voucher.

Avoid confusion with the biggest generic listing, the Cairo dinner cruise on the Nile with entertainment (from $42, 4.2 from 2,326 reviews). It doesn't name its boat, so you won't know in advance which one you get.

Nile Crystal, Nile Maxim or Nile Pharaohs?

These are the three big boats with their own reviews on this site.

  • Nile Maxim boards in Zamalek, on Saray El Gezira Street in front of the Cairo Marriott. It sails at 20:00 for about two hours, with up to 240 guests on a single level, so window tables matter. The menu is a set menu with a salad bar.
  • Nile Crystal boards at 7 Nile Corniche in Maadi, south of downtown. It serves an open buffet and has an upper deck. There is a sunset sitting around 18:00 and later sittings, and times shift with the season.
  • Nile Pharaohs boards on the Giza bank at 138 Nile Street. It serves an Egyptian-oriental open buffet at 20:00–22:00, with a late sitting at 22:30–00:30.

The same boat can cost very different amounts on different platforms. On the Nile Maxim, the gap between the cheapest and the dearest listing is large:

What a Cairo dinner cruise includes, and what it doesn't

  • About 2 hours on the water, usually past Cairo Tower and Qasr el-Nil Bridge.
  • Dinner: an open buffet on most boats, a set menu on the Nile Maxim.
  • Show: belly dance, tanoura (the whirling Sufi-style skirt dance) and live music.
  • Not included: drinks, often even water. Alcohol is sold on board on the Maxim and the Crystal.
  • Pickup: usually 45–90 minutes before departure from central Cairo and Giza hotels. New Cairo, Heliopolis, the airport and other outlying districts cost extra on many listings.
  • Dress: smart casual; no beachwear.

The sunset sittings meet the actual sunset only in spring and autumn. In Cairo the sun sets around 17:00 in winter and around 20:00 in midsummer. During Ramadan, check sitting times and the show with the seller.

If you would rather be on the water without a show, a felucca (a traditional sailing boat) is the quiet alternative; see felucca rides in Cairo.

How to book

Book a named boat on a platform that shows the boarding point. Tiqets also names the supplier: its Nile Maxim and Nile Crystal products come from FTS Travels. On Tiqets, dinner cruises can be cancelled free up to 24 hours ahead. On Headout, check the cancellation box on each listing. On GetYourGuide, most bookings can be cancelled free up to 24 hours ahead. Our guide to the three platforms explains the differences.

If a hotel desk or agency offers you a "Nile City boat", ask for the boat's actual name, the boarding address and what the price includes before paying.
