An Abercrombie and Kent Nile cruise comes in two forms: a stand-alone four nights on one of A&K's own boats, or the same cruise wrapped into a fully escorted Egypt journey with Cairo, flights and Abu Simbel. Our verdict: the most transparent luxury operator on the Nile and an excellent way to do Egypt without lifting a finger — but the journey price is a big premium over booking the same boat and the rest yourself.

Abercrombie and Kent Nile cruise: what you are buying

A&K is a luxury tour operator, not a cruise line, but on the Nile it is also a boat owner. In December 2024 it renamed its lodge-and-boat brand Sanctuary Retreats as A&K Sanctuary, so the riverboats you may know as "Sanctuary Sun Boat IV" or "Sanctuary Nile Adventurer" are A&K's own. Our A&K Sanctuary review covers each boat in detail: cabins, balconies, pools and the full rate table.

That gives A&K one clear advantage over almost everyone selling Nile cruises: you know exactly which boat you will be on. On the booking platforms, cruise listings say "5-star ship or similar" and the agency assigns the ship. With A&K, the boat is named in the journey and in the booking.

Abercrombie and Kent Nile boats

Boat Size Notes
Sun Boat IV 38 cabins, up to 76 guests Art Deco; balconies only on the two Royal Suites; used on "Egypt and the Nile"
Nile Adventurer 30 cabins, up to 60 guests Two Presidential Suites with wraparound balconies
Nile Seray 32 suites, up to 64 guests New from November 2026; every suite has a Juliet balcony; Seti I, Ramses VI and after-hours Tutankhamun included
Sun Boat III 16 cabins, up to 32 guests Charter and enquiry only
Zein Nile Chateau 6 cabins, up to 12 guests Dahabiya (traditional sailing houseboat), private charter only

All three scheduled boats sail four nights between Luxor and Aswan, in either direction, with two guided excursions a day. The cruise price includes meals, the excursions, transport, entrance fees and port charges; it excludes other drinks, flights, transfers and tips. A&K docks at its own landing, so you avoid the rafting of ships side by side at public quays.

Abercrombie and Kent Nile cruise itinerary: "Egypt and the Nile"

The flagship Egypt trip is "Egypt and the Nile", a small-group journey of 10 days for up to 18 guests, with guaranteed departures. In high season it leaves about every four days. The route as A&K publishes it:

Egypt and the Nile, in stages
  1. Start

    Cairo

    The journey starts in Cairo.

    Hotel nights

  2. Fly

    Luxor

Fly to Luxor; the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank.

    Internal flight included

  3. Cruise

    Kom Ombo

Four nights sailing from Luxor via Kom Ombo to Aswan aboard Sun Boat IV; some departures move to Nile Seray.

    Entrance fees and guide included

  4. Fly

    Abu Simbel

Fly from Aswan to Abu Simbel — no 03:30 coach.

    Internal flight included

  5. End

    Cairo

    Fly back to Cairo.

    Internal flight included

Flying to Abu Simbel is the detail that sets this apart from most Egypt packages. By road, Abu Simbel is about 280–300 km south of Aswan, 3.5–4 hours each way, with transfers leaving before dawn. A&K's flight replaces that long pre-dawn road trip.

Other A&K journeys use the same boats: "Egypt in a Week" (8 days, small group), "Egypt and the Nile: A Private Journey" (10 days), a tailor-made "Egypt: Cairo and the Nile" (8 days) and "Ancient Treasures of Egypt and Jordan" (15 days). One Egypt and Jordan journey sails from Luxor to Aswan on the Zein Nile Chateau dahabiya.

Abercrombie and Kent Nile cruise cost

"Egypt and the Nile" costs from US$16,995 per person (£13,760, €14,960 or A$26,015 on A&K's other sites). That includes the internal flights, the four-night cruise, guiding and Abu Simbel by air.

The same boat on its own is far cheaper. A&K's published cruise-only rate for Sun Boat IV is $3,235 per person for a Nile Deck cabin in October–November and January–March and $4,235 in Christmas week (in June–August 2026 it was $1,654); Nile Seray starts at $6,077 in November. Add your own Cairo hotel, domestic flights, transfers and an Abu Simbel trip and you can rebuild much of the journey for less — but you take on the planning and lose the escorted small-group format.

Who should pay the premium? First-time visitors who want one booking and no logistics, and travellers who value the flight to Abu Simbel. Who shouldn't? Anyone comfortable organising Cairo themselves: book the cruise direct and spend the difference on a better Cairo hotel.

Tips are not in the cruise price. There is no official rule; agencies suggest roughly US$5–10 per person per night for the crew and US$10–15 per person per day for the guide, unless A&K says otherwise.

What travellers say, and what to check

We have not collected guest reviews of A&K's Egypt trips, so we won't summarise them. Before you book, ask A&K:

  • Whether your departure sails on Sun Boat IV or Nile Seray — the cabins and the included tombs differ.
  • Which direction the cruise runs on your dates.
  • The cancellation and deposit terms for your journey — read them in A&K's booking conditions before you pay.
  • The child policy: from 10 on Sun Boat IV, from 6 on Nile Seray.

How to book an Abercrombie and Kent Nile cruise

Book on abercrombiekent.com or through a travel agent. For the boats themselves, start at abercrombiekent.com/sanctuary; the new Nile Seray page shows its rates and inclusions.

No booking platform sells A&K. If you want a Cairo-plus-Nile trip at a fraction of the price, the closest thing on GetYourGuide is an all-inclusive 6-day Egypt highlights and Nile cruise from Cairo, from $1,700 per person and rated 4.8 from 56 reviews. It includes flights, but it doesn't name the ship, and it is not comparable on boat size or guiding — read its "includes" list carefully.
